Friends with Benefits or FWB, once a scandalous phrase, has evolved in social acceptance.   It represents the relationship of two friends who are not a traditional couple but who have a sexual relationship without emotional involvement or commitment.   It’s supposed to be a fun, casual relationship.

This phrase has evolved over time and has a smoother, kinder feel than the harsh f*ck buddy or the term about 10 years ago, which was “hollaback girl”.   It has the pre-requisite throwback to a time of tighter morals in the phrase, walk of shame.   Recently, this has been replaced by Netflix and Chill.

This sort of non-traditional relationship is finding a physical comfort with another, but it can have problems if one of the participants falls in love and suddenly life and sex become more serious.   It also can develop problems if one of the partners meets someone new, because the nature of FWB is temporary.   One advantage, disadvantage is you don’t have to sleep over, but it’s important to remember that this relationship is meant just for the bedroom, it doesn’t include coffee dates, a movie out or meeting friends.    However, it may come as a surprise, it’s not all about the sex.

One necessity is protection.   Obviously sexual protection is a given, but social media protection is not something recognized but important.
